How RaceDay Engine scores HYROX shoes

Recommendation engine version 0.1.1. What we score, where evidence comes from, what we have and have not personally tested.

What we score

Each shoe is scored on seven attributes drawn from what actually matters for fitness-racing:

    Running efficiency— Race-day pace and energy return on runs.

    Sled grip— Traction on HYROX sled push and pull.
  • ·
    Stability— Confidence for loaded carries and lateral work.
  • ·
    Cushioning— Impact protection for repeated 1 km runs.
  • ·
    Durability— Outsole and upper life across training cycles.
  • ·
    Versatility— How well the shoe handles mixed sessions.
  • ·
    Value— Performance per dollar at MSRP.

How weights are chosen

The default profile weights the seven attributes for a balanced HYROX race-day athlete. The Shoe Finder lets you re-weight by selecting a different goal (running, sled, stability, or balanced) and intended usage (race day, training + race, mostly training). Fit is a compatibility adjustment, not a hard filter. Budget is both a hard MSRP ceiling (when you pick a fixed tier) and a weight on the value attribute.

The full weight table is documented in the source code at src/lib/recommendation/constants.ts. Any change to weights forces a recommendation engine version bump, so historical rankings remain reproducible.

Where evidence comes from

Every scored attribute is linked to at least one evidence record. We use four evidence levels:

  • A
    First-party RaceDay Engine test

    Controlled testing by RaceDay Engine under the published Phase 1 protocol.

  • B
    Athlete / coach / tester test

    Named testers outside RaceDay Engine with disclosed methodology.

  • C
    Manufacturer specification

    Verified official specs from the brand or authoritative retailer. Used for identity, weight, plate, foam, and MSRP.

  • D
    Editorial / community

    External reviews, community reports, or RaceDay Engine editorial interpretation of specs. The current catalog uses Level D only for sled, stability, durability, and versatility.

The level indicator on each product card is the source of truth — it is not a marketing claim. When we add first-party testing in Phase 1, the levels will visibly shift.
